Terms

Term Explanation
Base (plinth) The lowest section of a wall where it meets the base plate or floor slab.
Bomb Blast A shuttlecock-shaped cutter that, as an extra, carves a jagged hole into the building.
Connector (tongue/groove) A joining piece that holds separately printed parts together via a tongue-and-groove or dovetail shape (see Connectors).
Dormer A structure with a window on a sloped roof face — in PrintHaus as a shed, gable or hip dormer (see Openings).
Eaves The lower, horizontal roof edge; also the pivot around which the roof pitch tilts.
Gable The vertical, usually triangular wall surface beneath a sloped roof on the narrow side.
Hip The sloping outer edge where two roof faces of a hip roof meet on the outside.
Hipped end An extra sloped roof face on the narrow side instead of a vertical gable.
Individual-part scale The scale range up to 1:99 in which the house is broken into individual printed parts with connectors — the counterpart to the monolith.
Knee wall A low wall section between the ceiling of the top floor and the eaves.
Lintel The upper, horizontal edge of a wall opening.
Monolith From 1:100 on: each floor and the roof are exported as one solid body, windows and doors only as cut-outs (see Scale).
Relief The raised surface structure of a texture; created only in the print export, "None" = smooth.
Reveal The inner side faces of a wall opening (window, door).
Ridge The topmost, horizontal edge of a sloped roof where two roof faces meet.
Sill (parapet) On a window, the height from the finished floor up to the bottom of the window; on a balcony or terrace, the surrounding railing.
Valley The recessed edge where two roof faces meet at an internal corner.
Verge The sloping roof edge at the gable, running across the eaves.
